The Southwestern Region of the American Music Therapy Association
has members in >
New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas.
The Southwestern Region is home to the following Academic
Institutions which offer Music Therapy Degrees:
Southwest Oklahoma State University
Sam Houston State University
Southern Methodist University
Texas Woman's University
University of the Incarnate Word
West Texas A&M University
There are 11 National Roster Internship Sites in Texas and several
University Affiliated Internship Sites in the Region.


The purpose of the Region is to advance music therapy and to
increase access to quality music therapy services. The goal of the Region shall be:

To provide professional development
opportunities for music therapists.

To
participate in the operation of the AMTA
through representation on committees and the
Assembly of Delegates

To further an awareness and acceptance of music therapy as a viable health profession through job development, public relations activities and local and state legislative action

To promote communication among members through
Regional publications.
What is Music Therapy?

Music Therapy is the
clinical and evidence-based use of music interventions to
accomplish individualized goals within a therapeutic
relationship by a credentialed professional who has completed an
